Recounting her efforts to obtain Madame Blaze de Bury's address in order to send her a letter; discussing possible plans to winter abroad, as "Mr. Best is so delicate"; asking her opinion on the "italian question" (presumably the second Italian war of independence, fought in 1859); asking her if she intends to see the SS Great Eastern while in in England and describing a visit to Portland to see the ship; referring to the late explosion on board the ship, as well as a mutiny on board that has resulted in 30 of the sailors being confined in the local jail; discussing Captain (Francis) M'Clintock's published account of his expedition to the Arctic to discover the fate of explorer John Franklin's lost expedition.
