Summary
Saying that a disagreeable business calls him to Ayrshire, but at least he will be able to see her at Dunlop; (in postscript) transcribing the following ballad for her, which was finished today, and dedicates it to her and young ladies, Queen Mary's Laments, "Now Nature hangs her mantle green ..." (Lament of Mary Queen of Scots on the approach of spring); (second postscript) writing "The foregoing, tho' a shockling scrawl, is wonderfully well; considering that I have both dined & supped with the gentleman who does me the honor to frank this letter."
