Summary
Writing in response to an apparent request for an autograph excerpt from one of his poems to be presented by Fytche to a female acquaintance, explaining that "It is nausea to me to rewrite what is printed" and stating that Fytche should therefore accept his note to "serve for an autograph" and "Give it to the lady." With a second letter written by the recipient, Lewis Fytche, on the same folded sheet, addressed from Thorpe Hall, Elkington (in Louth), to "Dear Madam", and dated "St. Agnes' Eve" (i.e. January 20) 1849, sending along Tennyson's letter as promised, requesting that she send him "the Scotch songs" as well as Tennyson's "Break, break, break", "which Miss Sanback sings so touchingly", and remarking that "Our Lancashire visit has left ... most pleasing impressions - we shall not soon forget the kindness of your house", and hoping that Mr. Sanback has recovered from an attack of illness; letter signed "J Lewis Fytche".
