Summary
Saying that she has read Susanne G. Trautwein's Die schöne Richterin and found it "a very curious & arresting book, powerful yet measured," but that she has decided to not to undertake the translation, because "its literary style is so altogether different from my own literary style that I should not produce the right conveyance & effect by my handling of it, and you might be disappointed;" recommending Ethel Colburn Mayne as an alternate translator and referring to her translation of the "Ex Kaiser's Life" (possibly Emil Ludwig's book Wilhelm Hohenzollern: The Last of the Kaisers); adding in a postscript that she is returning Die schöne Richterin.
