Summary
Sympathizing with and consoling Lord and Lady Teignmouth, on behalf of himself and his wife Barbara, after a loss; referring to "the delightful principles & feelings manifested by Charles" (possibly Teignmouth's son Charles John Shore, 2nd Baron Teignmouth); discussing temptation; writing on matters of faith; mentioning that his wife has been reading to him (since his eyesight is poor) "some of Sir Walter's fictictious pictures of life & I have also heard Sheridans life & how strongly do they all enforce the Utter Vanity of folly of all pursuits that terminate in this World;" assuring the Teignmouths, as one set of parents to another, that "the Dear Young Man whom you have lost, (so far lost for this life as personal Intercourse is concern'd), tho' still continuing to call forth a melting tenderness will come to be regarded by you with more pleasure than pain;" adding additional consolations and promising that the Teignmouths are the subject of their prayers.
