Notes
Written from "Stansted," most likely referring to Stansted Park near Chichester, West Sussex.
Address panel with postmarks: "Horndean Sept twenty / four 1817 four / The Right Hon Lord Teignmouth / Totheridge / Middlesex." Wilberforce has also franked the letter.
Part of the letter, concerning the availability of Bibles in Iceland, is written in another unidentified hand. Wilberforce explains that he has had an amanuensis write out this section of the letter in order to spare his eyes.

Summary
Considering whether there should be a fund specifically devoted to "supplying Foreigners with Bibles" (probably referring to the activities of the British and Foreign Bible Society); expressing his concern over the fact that their larger Bibles do not contain marginal references; mentioning that, to spare his eyes, his amanuensis will copy out part of a letter he had recently received; asking whether or not they had recently printed an edition of the Bible for use in Iceland; discussing the availability of Bibles in Iceland; asking Teignmouth to "ruminate on the best Way of improving & civilizing a people such as the Haytian Community;" asking for the titles of any books that Teignmouth would suggest be sent to the young people of Haiti, along with "any advice to be given to King Henry [Henri Christophe], who really seems to be a truly great Man;" sending his best wishes to Lady Teignmouth and their children.
