Notes
Written from "Batta Rise," standing for Battersea Rise in Clapham, south-west London.
Address panel with postmarks: "London Septr ninth 1814 / The Right Hon Lord Teignmouth / Sidmouth / Devon." It appears that Wilberforce has written the subject of the letter ("old Mr Weston") on the address panel, as well as franking it.
A rectangular piece has been cut out of the first page of the letter, with no apparent loss of text.
Previously accessioned as MA 4586, part of a collection of letters to members of the Teignmouth family.

Summary
Saying that his wife Barbara has sent him a letter begging him to use his influence with the trustees of Morden College to assist Miss Weston's father; asking if he may use Lord Teignmouth's earlier recommendation to strengthen the case; mentioning that he has just come from Landgate and is halting at Battersea Rise for a "[purpose?] connected with the abolition;" discussing their respective healths; referring to the advanced state of medicine in contemporary England and commenting "I often think, that Had I been born in Athens, or still more, in Sparta, in its best times, I should never have been rear'd;" sending his regards to Lady Teignmouth along with news of another individual also staying in Battersea Rise.
