Summary:

Appreciating his comments on the Autograph Edition; writing that he never received the copy of the Sewanee Review, but he was abroad for most of '29 and '30, and his publishers can't forward second class mail to her; responding to his letter, which she has crossed out six of the early stories attributed to her because they are not genuine, some are wholly spurious, and she cannot give the history of each of them; discusses "On the divide" a college theme that a young professor greatly revised on his own before sending it to Overland Monthly without her knowledge; describing that "El Dorado" was also extensively revised by the same professor, and she never intended to publish it; stating that the other stories were the collaborative work of a group of young newspaper people, including herself, in Pittsburgh and should not be considered her work since her name was used only because she had published stories before, and since no money involved, it didn't seem to matter; explaining that the first published story that was really hers was "Death in the desert"; commenting that the remaining titles on his list are protected by copyright, and she wishes to keep them out of print; mentioning how she has managed to able to stop the circulation of mimeograph copies of her work that circulated out of the classroom and how the law protects her or else she will ask her attorney to get involved; reinforcing that there is to be no commercial or scholarly interest justifying republication, and she does not consider it friendly of him to wish to do so and will protect herself at all costs.
