Expressing how delighted she was to hear from her at Christmas and how much she appreciates old friends' rembrances; approving of Whicher quitting her job; writing that when the government put several of her books in the Armed Forces edition, it let her in for trouble for having to respond to all the soldiers who have written; saying that she spent summer in Northeast Harbor, Maine and that her right hand, that hurt badly four years ago, is currently in one of Dr. Ober's braces for five or six weeks.
