Declining her invitation to visit; writing that Miss Lewis's mother is very ill in Springfield; expressing that she had a nice autumn in Jaffrey, but has not been well lately; saying that she needs to get away from New York; commenting that she enjoyed writing the "Archbishop," but now that it is out there are too many events and letters, but she does enjoy the letters from the Catholics; adding that her nephew, Thomas Auld, is enjoying Amherst.
