Apologizing for being out of touch for so long, but she had her gall bladder and appendix removed in July and was recuperating for weeks in the hospital where she went from weighing 128 pounds to 110 pounds; describing the difficulties she had when she went home and how she still lost a few pounds from the heat; writing that Miss Lewis and she went to Williamstown, Massachusetts in October for a month; stating that she is now up to 115 pounds, but still can't fit in her clothes; commenting that she is living a quiet and retired life and will continue to for some time; showing her excitement over reading Sergeant's letter about the blacksmith shop multiple times; explaining that her maid has been ill since they went to Williamstown, so there is no one to answer the telephone; (in manuscript) writing how much correspondence she had to catch up on when she got back from Williamstown and that it makes her nervous to be so behind.
