Summary
Writing that "I have been annoyed with bile and with a good deal of pain, the consequence of my old Woman's having hurt me during my horrors." Complaining about her many visitors, writing that "in fact the constant succession of people have harassed me a good deal more than I wish." Relating a letter she received from Mrs. Shakespeare, whose daughter was recently married (discussed in the letter of December 23). Reporting that Sir David is building a new headquarters and that Sir David intends to prosecute Captain Gwatkin for abandoning his fiance Miss Smith. Reproducing an excerpt from his letter of reprimand to Captain Gwatkin. Writing that Anne and Henry will soon leave England for France. Commenting on "the curious manner in which old Bathurst left his thousands" to his family and writing that "this fortune will complete the ruin of his daughter Emily."
