Writing that Henry's brother George is distraught over their father's death and conveying the circumstances of the death. Writing that she, Alexander, Charlotte, and Mr. (Charles Walter)Welchman are still planning to take their tour (mentioned in a prior letter). Commenting on Mrs. Holland's improved health following her pregnancy, adding "She is the mother of an exceedingly fine Boy whom she nurses herself & has never enjoyed such good health." Reporting that Mrs. Farrington is unwell following the birth of her child (mentioned in the letter of November 18), which Maria blames on "not attending to Welchman's instructions." Commenting on a military appointment and reporting that "Old Bathurst" has died "worth 5 Lacs of rupees. he has left a lac to each of his daughters."
