Summary
Writing that Captain Baddeley is visiting and that Anne's husband Henry's father, Dr. James Carmichael-Smyth, has died. Reporting that she is resting for her health, "as it was about this time last year I was unfortunate." Recalling a "melancholy letter from poor Mrs. Hamilton" which stated that her two children have died, "a Boy of twelve months after three days illness, and that Sweet Child Mary from a sore throat." Reporting that "Mrs. Burns died of an ague & fever caught after her confinement." Commenting that "Welchman is getting quite fat between happiness and good food!"
