Summary
Attempting to quiet her mother's concerns over her health and claiming that she is improving greatly under Mr. (Charles Walter) Welchman's care. Explaining his medical training and experience in treating "Lady's complaints." Requesting more supplies from Calcutta. Contemplating how she will care for her child. Reporting that she realized "the possibility of a premature confinement," and that she "recollected that not only myself but Billy Boy [William Makepeace Thackeray] had been in a great hurry to come into the World." Reporting that Charlotte is still ill, and that "if she does not remain very quiet she faints away."
