Summary
Saying "Eleven days gone of the New Year that came to us - to you so sadly - & day by day has your strength been renewed I am sure for His compassions fail not they are new every morning - Snow & slush & fog & drizzle have enveloped us - & sorrows & illnesses have been thronging - now a cousin, a Dr. Venn of Cambridge, hangs between life & death & telegrams arrive & I am told to be ready to go to them any moment - the wife ill too & the little only late-born boy drooping - Dear C.E.S. is better & has a nice watchful Nurse for a few weeks & has gathered companions around her & has entered on a new phase I think - I just scribble you off this to accompany the paper which I think the autotype company ought to have sent ere this to you - How pleased I w'd be to hear it had arrived & that the sight of the controlling power in the awful waves had comforted & Peters loving shame in the want of faith in causing him to sink. I embrace you very tenderly."
