Summary
Saying she will send her the image of St. Peter that she mentioned in her last letter (MA 23198.18) in two days; adding "Yesterday I met dear old Mr. Jukes - an old prophet in our Church - he was telling me of a Mrs. Sullivan who had been suffering agonies for years - & sank a few hours after a terrible operation - in the interval she expressed her feeling in a Song. I said I should like to have that song to send to some dear sufferers in America - he sent me this note today which I send on to you (see MA 23198.20) - feeling as if it, itself w'd convey something a copy could not - there being a virtue in the hand that wrote it. This will get to you about Christmas time & be better than a Christmas Card - I thought of that word scourgeth just now - not only chasteneth but scourgeth every Son whom He receiveth! It is terrible - some scourge stripes enter into the very heart & tear it - & must bring out mighty Trust - or Despair - we know which the Scourge is bringing out of you dearest friend."
