Summary
Expressing her concern for the health crisis that Mr. Field had recently come through; saying "We can only firmly clutch the belief that the Fountain of All Good is pouring forth His refreshing streams on both body & spirit. CES & I together last Sunday talked & sighed & rejoiced over you dearest friends - I made a sudden run on Saturday to spend Sunday with her notwithstanding the airy site in which she perches, I cannot say nestles - & notwithstanding my fear of cold I risked it - in wonderful wraps - & was so rewarded - the dear was needing I think an old relation to be with her a little - she has so many sheltering under her wing to whom she dispenses so much, that I think it was a little relief to have some one who wanted chiefly to pat her & to remind her of the days when she was so young & thought me so old - Her brain condition wants a little soothing & quieting I think otherwise she is not very much amiss - It was a most uniting happy time we had together - & both felt it pleasant to be so far on in our pilgrimage - I am certainly beginning to drink the waters of Lethe now - (she is not of course) & so I hope to attain to Eunoë before she does - The cold is just beginning to pinch us - & oh the unemployed! the unemployed! how dreadful!"
