Commenting on a novel called "The Abbot" (by Sir Walter Scott) which she and Alexander have been reading. Lamenting Charlotte's upcoming departure with her fiance, writing "how strange our large Bungalow will look without any one to occupy it." Mocking a Mr. Firth for claiming "he can't live on fifteen hundred a year! ... It makes me sick to hear people say they can't live upon this they can't live upon that." Criticizing Mrs. Farrington's jealous husband. Reporting some drama in the Paton family at Agra.
