Summary
Offering her support and empathy to Mrs. Field in caring for her invalid husband and extending her sympathy on the loss of their niece; commenting on the [Trafalgar Square] riot the previous Monday and saying "You will be glad to know that I was not one of the ladies pulled out of their carriages last Monday afternoon! A friend had just been calling who went in to a hospital having driven there in his Victoria & his Coachman in the meantime saw the end of the mob surround a Brougham - turn a lady out & then wrench its 2 doors off & smash its windows & etc - So many of the speeches remind me of French revolution beginning ones - all Government - its very idea seems now to be discarded - What do people wish is the question - & the loudest words & most violent acts as in Ireland are to be yielded to as the true expressions of the general wish - The last 3 days we have been in the utter most anxiety about dear Lord Mount-Temple - he still hangs between life & death - but hope preponderates this morning."
