Mr. Brougham was Henry Peter Brougham, first Baron Brougham and Vaux (1778-1868), an English lawyer and politician. He served as Caroline of Brunswick's attorney-general during her divorce proceedings in Parliament. Summary
Reporting that she and Alexander have reconciled with the Fagans after their quarrel of the past fall. Writing that Mr. Fagan sent an apology to Alexander through Captain Hall, and that the Fagans later dined at the Knox's home. Commenting on her mother's situation, "I have refrained from saying any thing on all the uncertainty of your situation my dearest mother for I am sure it must be horrid enough for you to endure." Writing of the "heavy accusations" against Mrs. Roberts' husband. Reporting that Alexander is "full of admiration of Mr. Brougham's Defense of the Queen" and commenting, "I wonder what his fat Majesty says!".
