Summary
Saying "Many thanks for your letter. I am glad personally that you and Dr. Wadd have met, for a few words of explanation will have done much to allay any irritation that any conversation possibly erroneous probably exaggerated as reported may have caused Dr. Wadd. In the first place I deplore any controversy whatsoever on the subject of Her Royal Highness's illness, and in this you will agree with me that it is extremely undesirable that any should arise under any circumstance. Leaving aside the question of the treatment of the case at its commencement & during its course one cannot help allowing the very favorable result of its cure to outweigh all other considerations as a matter of fairness. And though I have no knowledge of Surgery, yet judging from the results of the treatment of the case it was my opinion as it is now that a previous life was saved by the prompt measures taken in that direction & of that I was able to judge personally myself. In conclusion I would ask you not to say or do anything that can continue a discussion which can only end by being unprofitable. I again offer my services if I can be of use in allaying any irritation that may have arisen."
