This material is part of a large collection of approximately 700 letters written to Dr. William Wilberforce Baldwin (1850-1910), an American cardiologist who practiced in Florence during the late nineteenth century and attended to many famous patients including Henry James, Samuel Clemens, members of the British royal family and Pierpont Morgan. The bulk of the collection (MA 3564) was the 1968 gift of Dr. Baldwin's daughters, Cornelia Thayer Baldwin Lane (1892-1994) and Margaret Elizabeth Baldwin Hawks (1894-1983). This collection (MA 9781) was added in 2018 as the gift of Patricia S. Baldwin, the widow of Dr. Baldwin's grandson Nicholas Baldwin.

Summary
A collection of 28 autograph letters signed primarily from members of the British Royal Household to Dr. William Wilberforce Baldwin, including three letters from Mary Adelaide, Duchess of Teck, two letters from Francis, Duke of Teck, four letters from Mary of Teck, eight letters from Hélène Bricka, companion and secretary to the Duchess of Teck and ten letters from Sir Alexander Nelson Hood, Controller of the Household and one letter from Dr. Bezly Thorne to Hood with one unsigned note from Dr. Baldwin to Hood. The collection also includes two telegrams sent by Hood to Dr. Baldwin and two photographs.
