Summary
Relating a long story about a controversy between her husband Alexander and Fagan, an official under his command. Fagan wrote an insulting letter to Mr. Burns regarding the provision of transportation (called “carriage” in the letter), which both Alexander and Mr. Burns decided to send to headquarters for disciplinary action. Alexander wrote to Fagan urging him to withdraw his letter to avoid being punished. Recalling how Fagan confronted Alexander in a heated argument. Lamenting the extent to which the issue has harassed Alexander and herself, blaming Fagan's wife for inciting him to behave this way, and speculating that she does so out of jealousy of her.
