Notes
The following note appears on the righthand side of the page, in an unknown hand: "Lecon d'anglais de Napoleon à / Longwood 1816 / à M[onsieu]r de Monmerqué / par le C[om]te de Las Cases / passy 10 juillet 1829." In June 2019, Peter Hicks of the Fondation Napoléon identified this leaf as having been owned by the manuscript autograph collector and bibliophile Louis de Monmerqué́. According to Hicks, this note is believed to be in the hand of Las Cases, written around 1829. Under this note is another note in pencil, reading "presented by Count Las Cases Napoleon's friend and biographer.”
Removed in 1988 from an extra-illustrated copy of R.H. Horne, The history of Napoleon (London: R. Tyas, 1840-1846); PML 196675-196680. Letters removed from the volumes at this time were given the accession number MA 4587, but were never formally accessioned.
