Summary
Expressing her grief at receiving news of Mr. Field's suffering; saying "I can think of how much you must be passing through in seeing his pain, and I can only send tender loving thoughts to you, and pray for you both - Dear Mr. Field - how brave and true and noble he is, and how much he has helped others on their life by his example and sympathy and love. I won't trouble you with reading a long letter you know that your sorrow is ours too for we are fond of you both;" adding, in a postscript, "Meta is in London but I am sending her the letter that makes me so sad. God comfort you both."
