Summary
Concerning Lillah McCarthy's marriage; saying "I have been feeling so unhappy over what was so painful to you. Your last note before we came up to town spoke of half an hour's talk over things, with a certain gravity about the words; then, as it did not happen, I just wrote three lines of warm affection, in a general sense, fearful lest it was our fault that you had not spoken, and hoping to help - that was all! And I now re-assure you most earnestly of that steady affection. We are very much in the dark, but cannot avoid understanding more or less. And I want you to know that if anything is to be done that we can do, we are here to do it; our utter discreetness and silence in any case you may be very sure of. Time, and work - are the great helpers and healers, and splendid courage you always have by nature. And so, all that happens must turn to good."
