Summary
Saying they were happy to get her letter and know where she was and learn of her plans; adding "Yesterday we (notre Roi et nous) were to have been royally fêted at Richmond by the Buccleugh. Our House had nobly adjourned all business for the occasion. But they had omitted to send to France for a July day, so we had an English one which began with 5 hours incessant rain. The consequence was that numerous dispatches were expedited over land to Windsor & to London; and about 3 o'clock little boys were running all over the Town telling all well-dressed people that they were to have no breakfast...The fête now stands for Friday. But I am hardly confident all the business of the Town will then be suspended, as it was yesterday more effectually then it ever will be by Sir A. Agnew; relating social news of mutual friends and referring to the debate on the Church Bill; the remainder of the letter is missing.
