Summary
Replying on behalf of his wife Harriet; saying "She is confined to her bed & is very nervous & low. She suffers terribly from muscular spasmodic pains for which they have given her opium & the opium has affected her stomach. In all this, I am assured there is nothing alarming. But it is very distressing;" relating news of mutual friends; adding "The Whiggery are loud in their joy over Chasse's surrender even as angels over a repentant sinner...Sir R. Wilson wants me to ride with him to Antwerp. But I cannot leave Harriet till she can receive company. Sir Robert is in come confusion having demonstrated the impossibility of taking Antwerp before January & he wants to see how & what the mistake was (not his mistake, but Chassé's). I was very glad to hear the King knew of so little of Elections near him. I wish you could say as much of the Queen. Is it true she sent a Royal servant to learn the state of the Brighton Poll every hour?"
