Summary
Relating news of family and mutual friends, his social engagements and discussing, at length, the death of Lord Londonderry [Castlereagh]; describing the events of the preceding week leading up to Londonderry's death and the disturbed state of his mind; saying "The Servants & Family had taken the precaution to remove as they thought every [illegible] of instrument with which he might destroy himself out of his way, his derangement being so evident - one of the Papers of the Morning says that he had exclaimed frequently within these few days that he was overpowered by business & enquired of them were not Spies in the house set on him;" referring to the political implications but adding that he "...was the most amiable kind in private life beloved by his Servants & the poor & the [illegible] benefactor of his Friends & Relations;" relating how the newspapers are reporting the death and adding "I passed thro St. James' Square yesterday evening about 8 oclock there were a good number of persons of the Lower Classes assembled round the House, & I am told they loudly [illegible] every sort of imprecation on him. Les Bêtes already say that his Death was owing to O'Meara's Book - He was on the point of commencing a Promotion of it!!
