Thanking her for the birthday wishes and expressing his deep friendship for her; saying "Be assured that I am fully sensible of this fresh proof of the steady friendship which you have upon all occasions evinced for me for so many years and that no one is more sincerely attached to you or feels a more lively interest in every thing which concerns you than I do. I am rejoiced to hear that you are so well pleased with and feel yourself so comfortable at Sherwood Lodge. From what I could judge of the place when I was with you there last year I am certain that it was capable of being made very pretty and I shall be very anxious as soon as I return to Town to see all your improvements."
