Summary
Relating news of the visit of the Duke de Nemours and the activities surrounding it, saying the Queen wrote to him of his reappointment and relating news of mutual friends; apologizing for all the pain the trouble he may have caused her over the past 7 or 8 years; adding "I am considering what I can give your brother George of the late King's as he with much good feeling offered me the Robes of the Thistle. The two Valets sent me the other day one, the spurs he last wore, a chivalrous present and the latter (what do you think?) the last Razor with which he was shaved. Such a present would (all sharp instruments very ominous as Gifts without exchange of a sixpence) have earlier been a reason for all subsequent misfortunes. I shall take care never to present you with a knife, not even a paper one."
