Summary
Reporting on his father's condition; dating the letter at the start "19 June / 11 o clock;" saying "The King has had the visitation of the sick read to him by the Archbishop and received his blessing - with much feeling & devotion - but is I think seriously weakened by the exertion - He has all the symptoms of death - except the fixed countenance & said an hour ago, he should not live till now - But restoratives have a little revived him - He has sent for everybody and taken leave of them - I held his hand for some time - cold & clammy - 'My dear Boy' - he said to me - I write my dear Friend - as I do one Sentence by the side of the other to Lady Munster - as I can by snatches - when I have a moment - I never saw such firmness & propriety of Conduct - perfectly resigned and sensible - I stand comparatively alone here - not as you did at your adopted Mother['s] Bed side - with Husband and some Friends around - who could offer you ever consolation - But I find it in the absence in this writing - as I know & feel however distant, that they nevertheless feel for me - We shall be here full three weeks [illegible] in this House of mourning & I do hope you will write to me occasionally - / 3 o clock / No change of any importance within the last two hours & the restoratives have prevented farther diminution of strength - The Duke of Cumberland is here & going to stay & I have asked the Archbishop to stay over the last moment."
