The letter is undated however Mrs. Fitzherbert refers to a recent letter to Minney in which she mentioned the Opera Box bought by Mrs. Wat. That letter was dated May 17, 1833 (see MA 3498.142). She also refers to everyone in Town leaving for the Epsom Races which were usually held in late May or early June. She also refers to the death of Lord Newburgh who died May 28, 1833.
Thanking him for his letter and expressing her hope that they are enjoying their time in Paris; discussing politics saying "I cannot enter upon the Subject of Politics, the papers will shew you what a shocking state we are in - petitions from all Quarters to the King imploring him to dismiss his Ministers, it is suppos'd with a view to the Radical party taking the Government into their own hands - The Duke of Orleans has had a letter from his brother informing him of your having pass'd an Evening with him - he is gone on Tour into the Country returns on the 18th for the Kings Birth day & then sets out for Brussels;" relating news of family and friends, of the death of Lord Newburgh and news of marriages and engagements; asking him to tell Minney "...that my lawyer Mr. Forster told me yesterday he sh'd have upwards of a hundred pounds to remit to her - an old debt of many years standing - I cannot charge memory with all the particulars relating to it;" adding, in a postscript, that everyone is "...setting off for the Races at Epsom" and she has an invitation to dine at the Palace on Sunday.
