Summary
Discussing the political situation; saying "The Duke of Richmond has resign'd - I wish more would do as much - I will write again tomorrow - perhaps I may be able to send you an account of what is to be done - at present all is mystery - I hope you like the fine manly speech of the Duke [of Wellington] - it has done him credit;" adding, in a postscript "The K. has refus'd to make more Peers & Lord Grey cannot form an administration - every body is going to the Commons to see what is to be done - The Master of the Rolls says all is ruin - but I still have hopes & it is said if there are no Peers made the D. of Richmond will remain - the Grey party say as they cannot form an administration the Opposition must come in - if this is the case Peel I hope will come in - but I doubt the Duke will not accept - Munster has this moment left me - he has written you a letter - he is very angry & I think he has reason - The Ball to night - Lord Grey says he must have peers or a paper sign'd that the Opposition will not go against the Bill - God knows what will be done."
