Summary
Concerning Mary Anne's [Smythe] illness in which she has had a fever and a rash; saying "...but she is going on in every respect very favorably it has a great tendency to a Scarlet Fever what is commonly call'd Scarlatina she does not know any thing of it herself but thinks it is a nettle spring bush - The girls are not allow'd to go near her for there is certainly Infections of course I have never mov'd nor have I let any one come to the House but Blake has just told me the day after tomorrow he thinks it will all be gone & that she has been very fortunate in having escap'd so well;" relating news of a new maid and the difficult departure of another; discussing a letter she had from Mademoiselle Besan about her need for money and which "...I cannot under the present circumstances do what she wishes - which in fact would do her no good;" expressing her hope that she will come to Brighton for Easter; adding, in a postscript, how much improved Louisa appears and adding that she has "...grown very handsome & too as amiable as ever I only regret the dullness of our life it is so very stupid at this moment. They however went to Lady Keith last night to hear the Gents sing which they were delighted with."
