Summary
Concerning unpublished letters of Berkeley; saying "Thanks for your letter, with its information that you have heard of letters of Berkeley - unpublished - which belong to Lord Shannon. I do not know about them, & from what you say they seem to have been only lately discovered, & were thus not known when I was in the South of Ireland, ten years ago. I shall be very much interested in hearing more about this. Perhaps you will kindly correspond with your friend, & let me know the results - so that, if possible, I may follow out the hint you have given. I am not sanguine that, if they exist, they contain any matter of philosophical interest; but they are likely enough to illustrate Berkeley's character. If you find that your information is correct, & if you get to Cork in May, I shall trust to your report of what the M.S.S. contain - as I ought in May to be preparing for press my little volume, intended for your Series. I have heard of some letters of Berkeley, also of biographical interest, in possession of Lord Egremont - not [illegible] known about - of which I hope to avail myself in some degree in the book you ask me to write. I am sorry to hear that Müller persists in his project. Of the two Series - if he really goes on - I cannot doubt that with the Blackwoods & you as rivals, his must go to the wall. But we must do our best to secure your Series. Müller I dare say is not pleased with me for writing to him as I did."
