Summary
Thanking Tomlinson for his suggestion as to what his new patron, Mr. Starkey, would not like the subject of his painting by Egg to be and assuring him that he had no intention of repeating a similar subject to that of his last painting, "not that there is anything objectionable in the picture, but it is suggestive", adding that it was painted "a gentleman who would not feel the objections that many others would raise" and that he can "quite understand the majority feeling as Mr. Starkey would do."; also thanking him for telling him of "Lord Spencer's collection of portraits", remarking that it is a "very useful place to know of."
