Summary
Writing in response to a recent note from Tomlinson to let him know that he does not expect to be able to complete a painting for Mr. Starkey during the present season, as he has many previous obligations to fulfill and has "had such a dreadful fit of laziness, together with not being quite well in health "that he does not expect to have anything for the year's exhibition; hoping, nonetheless, that Mr. Starkey will give him a call, and expressing his regrets that "an accident" prevented Tomlinson from attending "our play" (possibly a reference to the benefit performance of Edward Bulwer-Lytton's "Not so bad as we seem", staged in 1851 and notable for its amateur cast which included notable for its cast, which included novelists Charles Dickens, Wilkie Collins, Punch editor Mark Lemon, Augustus Egg and John Tenniel,) and inviting him to call upon them during their planned visit to Manchester in September.
