Summary
He says that the news that Monsieur [Paul?] Reynaud gave them is strong, and he's not quite over it yet. While waiting to recover, he's writing to Rosenberg. Matisse has found a tranquil place to work to rest his mind. He writes about a strange stay in a house in Bordeaux before arriving in Ciboure, which was apparently a brothel. It made him laugh, something he hadn't done for a long time, and he left early in the morning. He says he's giving Rosenberg all the details so he knows exactly what kind of house it was--and so he can tell his friends about the porter of the Royal Gascogne hotel who are looking for a room. [It was the porter of this hotel who brought him there] He hopes that Rosenberg is well and is not letting the present atmosphere get him down. He should keep up his hopes.
