Summary
He visited Rosenberg's gallery and was very happy with the stand [for one of his sculptures] that Rosenberg had made. He's working on a large statue (approximately 35 inches tall). People who have seen it have found it very successful. It has a round base and a cylindrical base of the same texture as the other one [just mentioned]. He thinks it would look good on the back wall opposite the entrance. However, he doesn't have a copy of it in bronze and says that for a gallery like Rosenberg's, the material has to be of very high quality. He hopes, without wanting to offend Rosenberg, that Rosenberg will help him to execute it in metal. The cost for casting this statue by the lost wax technique will be $450. The foundry is willing to be paid in monthly payments of $150. He is making this request to Rosenberg honestly and simply, guided by the most elevated feelings that unite the two of them at this time. (in postscript) He says that another reasoning he is making this request to Rosenberg is that after January 7, 1942, bronze will no longer be allowed to be used for works of art.
