Summary
She says that as he can see, she hasn't gone off to the US. She went to Switzerland to celebrate the holidays in the snow and will return to Paris on January 2 or 3. She wonders who could have told him that she intended to go to the US. She wouldn't go there because of her paintings, but might if a handsome American seduced her and made her see life through rose-colored glasses. She thinks Paris is bad enough. She's had a dress made by a dressmaker for 2000 francs and is enjoying the brisk, healthy winter weather. She says that before she left, she went to see his wife, but she wasn't there. Christmas must have been sad for her with him away [probably in New York?], and he must miss his family as well.
