Summary
A serious drought has struck Paris. The best thing to do is stay at home, surrounded by trees. She has been reading all the editions of the Digest. An engraving is being printed based on one of her paintings at the Musée de Tokio. Louise de Vilmorin is writing a preface for it. Laurencin finds it strange, because de Vilmorin never has come to see her and, she thinks, has probably never seen one of her paintings. She says that de Vilmorin is probably right--after all, she's a poet and can invent. She goes on to say that for the fake Laurencins, she has written to someone but hasn't received any response. She'll be in Paris in September. The stores are empty [of customers], as well as the galleries.
