Summary
She is very touched by his affectionate letter and delighted with the good news [probably that his daughter Micheline is getting married (7 days later) or else that he is going to Paris]. She says that he will of course be sad to be coming without Micheline. She has no real news from Paris. It's difficult and taking a long time to repair the streets. People are in a docile frame of mind and passive, forgetting they are "carnivores" [i.e., not being nasty to one another]. There are a lot of translations of books by black authors to read and many exhibitions. Suzanne [Moreau] hasn't gained any weight. She's as sensible and upright as always and loves housework.
