Addressed to "E.McKnight Kauffer Esq. / 21 East 57th Street, / NEW YORK 22 / UNITED STATES OF AMERICA."
Written on a postcard with a black-and-white photograph of Moustiers Sainte-Marie, Provence on the front. The postmark is London, "Chelsea / S.W. 5."
Sending news of his visit to France; saying "After being down here I found that there was not enough garlic in Paris. I tasted the soupe aux poissons of Marseille, though not the bouillebaisse (which I don't like anyway, too many bones) but nothing to equal Marion's Nassau Chowder. Acquired an honorary degree from Aix and a sore throat, but nothing malignant."
