Summary
Concerning a job for George Barker (see MA 1667.9); saying "I am answering at once to say that while I am sure Barker would rather have a part-time job than none, I think that he had in mind a whole-time job, and I am quite sure that a whole-time job would be better for him, as I think that the less time he has for writing poetry the better it will be for the poetry he does write. I am looking forward with much excitement to the table, which may have arrived in my absence, and will write to Marion as soon as it comes. I am extremely grateful to her for the trouble she has been at. I am free on the evening of February 2nd, Candlemas Day, and if there is to be a birthday dinner for John I should be delighted to be allowed to come, though rather jaded I fear after having to appear at a do at the Mansion House on behalf of Southwark Cathedral."
