Summary
Thanking them for the gift of the hyacinths which arrived on Christmas Eve "...and added immensely to the pleasure, or alternatively relieved the burden, of our Christmas in this dismal flat. You are extremely generous people, and we both appreciated the gift to the full. We have had a very trying time these last months, and have not been very well, and dislike our present abode so much that we have had no heart to ask people here. But hope to find a dwelling early in the New Year to which we shall want to invite our friends. And we thank you again for the hyacinths & the thought behind them."
