Summary
She was stuck in her house for 3 days because of the ice. She, who never looks out onto the street, has been watching the adventurous pedestrians. Now it's raining and the ice is thawing, and one can walk normally. The co-op members had a meeting to discuss coal and water. The building is badly heated. The night before she went to a humdrum show--comments on how the women were dressed. She feels more apprehensive than she did 3 months earlier [about the war]. She's been rereading Dickens. She's also been reading Jacques de Voragine's Lives of the Saints (The Golden Legend) and quotes historical facts. The dog she asked about in the previous letter turns out not to be for Rose Descat but for one of her rich woman friends.
