Summary
Thanking him for his New Year's wishes. Etienne de Beaumont has come to wish her Happy New Year and told her that he'd like to see Rosenberg. She tells him how much everyone misses him and how useful he has been to everyone. She says that he has encouraged her to work, but she can do only what a woman can do; Rosenberg is a man and can accomplish more. She says that Etienne de Beaumont isn't an idiot; he's an organizer. He's raised 20 million francs for army ambulances. Monsignor Verdier [the bishop of Paris] blessed them, and de Beaumont is going to drive them to the front. Paris is unpleasant. Armand [Loewengard] is feeling so-so. He's had to run around in the snow to get military convalescence papers. (in postscript) She says that the captain of the Siroco is the brother of Madame de Robien.
