Bequest of Gordon N. Ray, 1987.
Summary
Informing him that he would like to see his play produced [possibly an adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo], but he is not the only one involved. There are also the heirs of (Auguste) Maquet with whom he has to enter into an agreement, since the recipient's play is intended to replace the four plays signed by his father [Dumas pere] and Maquet and the heirs want the four plays to be revived. He suggests that someone named Rochard see M. Roiffé, with whom Rochard is already in contact. For reasons that are too long explain in this letter, but that he will explain when he sees the recipient, he cannot even acknowledge that he knows of the existence of the recipient's play. It is suitable for Rochard, and Dumas authorizes it, on the condition that he receive part of the royalties, but that is all he can do for the recipient because of his difficulties with Maquet's heirs.
